I'm an
Individual
My award winning career as a staff and freelance photographer spans more than 35 years. Demonstrating my versatility as a news photographer I was named Newspaper Photographer of the Year from the Virginia News Photographers Association and also named Virginia Wildlife Photographer of the Year from VDGIF. In 2018 I won News Photo of the Year from the Virginia Press Association for my work with Loudoun Now. In 2019 I received an EMMY nomination and then six months later won the EMMY award. I also was awarded the prestigious Edward R. Murrow award for best video production in 2019. I have been in the middle of some of the most important news stories over the past three decades publishing photographs in dozens of national and international publications. My long career started in Virginia under the tutelage of some of the best news editors in the business, Keith Stickley and George Barton. I'm a self confessed county boy and a proud native of Virginia. I spent 17 years of my career in the hyper restrictive world of national politics in Washington, D.C.. I retired from full time national politics in 2014 and changed my focus from Capitol Hill and the White House to the rolling hills of the Blue Ridge and my beloved Loudoun County Virginia. I was thrilled and more then happy returning as a community journalist and consider it to be the most important work of my career. Helping to start the community newspaper Loudoun Now in Leesburg reignited my passion for photojournalism. Over the past 4 years I took a year to document my own back yard, one photo a week for an entire year creating my new book, Transition of a Shooter. In 2018 I started America's Routes an advocacy group attempting to save the historic gravel road network in Western Loudoun.
