For over 20 years as the Owner and Operator of an early learning preschool childcare and summer day camp, I had the privilege and joy to provide thousands of families with shots of their children during their days in our center. I was taught that ‘film is cheap so take as many shots as possible to get good candid photos’. Now with digital, the ‘film’ is essentially free, and with fast lenses, wider useable light sensitivity ranges (the equivalent of ISO in film) and ever faster focus, metering, and high frame rates great candid shots are much easier, and possible without cumbersome artificial lighting. Using equipment with large ( APS or 35mm) format high Megapixel sensors (24 MP) makes possible cropping i.e. taking a portion of the picture with a subject of interest and enlarging it to create a final picture that otherwise would be hard to impossible to get even when shooting with two cameras: one with a wide angle zoom and one with telephoto zoom. For over 20 years before the childcare business, photography was both a hobby and often technically part of my basic biology research—macro, microscopic, and electron microscopic. As a hobby I have shot everything from the flowers, bugs, and critters each spring in my back yard and neighborhood to large animals encountered in my travels, from those in Zoos to those in the wild. Landscapes, buildings, ruins, street and food photography are also aspects of my travel photography. My travels so far have taken me as far West as Kauai and all the other major Hawaiian islands to as far East as Petra in the Kingdom of Jordan, as far North to above the Arctic Circle in Norway, as far South as the bay islands of Honduras, as high as the summits of: Mauna Kea on the Big Island Hawaii; Arapahoe-Basin Colorado; Mt. Etna in Sicily; Jabal Musa (a.k.a. Mt. Horeb may be the biblical Mt. Sinai) Egypt. As low (in ft. below sea level) as 120 (underwater southern Bahamas, Sea of Cortez, Bay Islands of Honduras), 700 Sea of Galilee (depth at surface), 1,400 Dead Sea (depth at surface). I can provide a fast turnaround time providing all potentially usable shots (only deleting the completely out of focus, otherwise totally blurred, completely under or over exposed, inadvertent shots of the ground, sky, feet, and other uselessly miss-framed). If in reviewing the photos there is an example of a crop that could result in an interesting photo we may include the crop as a suggestion of what is possible. The current format is jpeg with the minimum (4X) compression. If there are particular shots of interest, RAW (Nikon format) shots are available for a limited time after the shoot. This generally allows us to provide the shoot to you on 4GB DVD’s with 400 or more files per DVD. We do not do post processing, or printing. There are many businesses from chain stores to professional editing and fine printing shops to choose from that can provide these services. Currently I spend time in Central New Jersey (08904) and Central Florida (32765). Our services are somewhat unique, but our pricing will probably be extremely competitive, so much so that you might consider us not as an alternative to more conventional photography services but as a compliment to them.
