Photographer in New York, New York

I am, in the strictest definition, a self-taught photographer. But for all intents and purposes, New York City has been my teacher. Both the city itself and the people who live and visit here are my inspiration. There is a gracefulness to all the grit and energy that abounds in this great city and I seek to capture it in single frames. While I have engaged in photography for the better part of 15 years, it has been the last 4 years during which I've taken on photography as a more professional endeavor. My journeys through street photography, documentary photography and portrait/fashion photography have conveyed many lessons, but one above all: successfully photographing people is built on a foundation of comfort. The model/subject must feel, to some degree, endeared to their photographer. This is my philosophy going into every shoot. I aim to make everyone who steps in front of my camera feel comfortable. As I addressed above, comfort is key. I'm a naturally easygoing person. I'm adaptable to virtually any situation and I respond quickly and creatively to challenges. I have found that simple, casual conversation puts clients at ease. Compliment them, have a sense of humor, show them you're having a good time with them, and more often than not things will go well. When a client is comfortable, they are more receptive to direction and less likely to feel awkward being in front of the camera.
