Do you have an elderly family member who would cherish the opportunity to leave their mark on the world? A milestone birthday coming up? I can help you memorialize their unique story. My own story began with my elderly widowed mother loving to tell the stories of her past, sometimes the same ones over and over. One day a light bulb went off in my head. Her 90th birthday was coming up and we were honoring her with a party. So I interviewed her and transcribed her short stories, asking her questions to fill in the time line with details. Interviewing her was the key part that made the project a true success--also her favorite part. My brother and sister offered their support and hunted down relevant historical background information and chose old family photos that helped her story come to life. When our family presented my mother, on her 90th birthday, a hard copy photo album of the story of her life, it was truly an honoring moment for her—a memoir that will live on and on. We also created an electronic version of the album for extended family members and a personalized poster of the family tree.
