Photography for me has always been a means of self-expression, but for communication as well. I communicate with my family through pictures. As an individual from a family of immigrants, I have relatives in the US and in the Philippines. I never had the chance to learn Tagalog, the native language of the Philippines. Although, I could not communicate through language and text. Expressions and moments are universal. The human eye can easily interpret a smile, a laugh, and joy. My camera is an extension of my eye used to showcase the beauty that I see. I’ve used photography as an outlet to convey my thoughts and my interpretations of beauty. The ability to capture and create is something important to me. In my opinion, reality is picture perfect and just needs someone to capture it. My role as a photographer is to help people express themselves and to capture moments important to them.
